Southern Fried DNN Blog

Southern Fried DNN User Group (Formerly Queen City DotNetNuke User Group QCDUG) blog covers DNN topics addressed by the usergroup at meetings, conventions and for the DNN community for North Carolina, South Carolina and the DNN community at large!

LINQ, Bamboo, and DotNetNuke

This past week we had another great QCDUG meeting. We looked forward to this meeting as we had two knowledgeable presenters scheduled to speak. A great crowd enjoyed the presentations and the delicious food provided by nvisionative

Allen Foster, QCDUG president and head coyote, welcomed attendees and provided announcements. I followed him up with some DotNetNuke Community announcements and door prizes then it was time to get the show on the road. Mike Direnzo presented an in depth presentation on LINQ. In Mike’s presentation he showed some LINQ code and also walked through some LINQPAD features. Mike discussed LINQ vs SQL and got some good interaction and questions from the audience.

DNNCorp’s own Will Strohl presented next and he encouraged meeting attendees to be like bamboo! The presentation was just as interesting as the title. (See the abstract for Will’s presentation). Will’s presentation was a motivational one that not only showed group attendees the wealth of DotNetNuke information and resources that is freely available online, but it also encouraged attendees to be a resource! Will encouraged members to contribute their talents and knowledge in whatever manner they like. His message is that we all have a voice and that we all, the community, are what DotNetNuke is all about.

Both presentations were really engaging and informative and we were glad to have Will join us for a meeting all the way. One neat aspect about our meeting was that we opened it up to other DotNetNuke devs around the world by using a Google+ hangout. See my blog entry about “How Google+ Can Transform Your User Group” on my personal site. Before the end of the night the DNN Cake Lady dropped by for a visit. Then the group headed out to Ruby Tuesdays for the after party!

We would also like to thank PluralSight for sponsoring our user group! Several QCDUG group attendees were glad to receive 1-month free subscriptions to PluralSight’s online video training service!
