Blogging in core DNN Blog module with Windows Live Writer

BlogLikeAPro

Today I decided to tackle integration between the core DNN Blog module and Windows Live Writer.  I had heard several people talking about it and I have been wanting to be a more active blogger.  Turns out, the integration is pretty simple and cool!  Here are some quick tips to get you started.

NOTE:  I am assuming you already have a core DNN Blog module installed and configured on a DotNetNuke website.  For my situation, I was connecting Windows Live Writer with Blog 4.1.1.

  1. Go to “Edit Blog Settings” for your DNN Blog module instance
  2. Copy the URL located in the “MetaWeblog Options” section.
  3. Download Windows Live Writer (FREE).
  4. Install Windows Live Writer.
  5. Start Windows Live Writer.
  6. When prompted enter the URL from Step #2 above, along with your DNN login credentials, to add your blog to Windows Live Writer.
  7. Windows Live Writer will most likely not automatically detect the blog initially.  When prompted, select the “MetaWeblog” blog type from the dropdown and reattempt the connection.
  8. Upon successful connection, you are good to go.  Congratulations!

You may repeat Steps #1, #2, #6, #7 and #8 to add multiple BLOG accounts to Windows Live Writer.  For those of you managing blogs on multiple websites, this is a great way to consolidate and more effectively manage all blogs.

Be sure to let me know what you think and please share your experiences so others will benefit.
